Favre Back in the Saddle

2002-11-04

A little extra time and a little extra protection was the right combination to get Brett Favre back on the field for tonight`s Monday Night Football showdown with the Miami Dolphins.
Favre`s status has been upgraded to probable. Wearing a protective brace on his sprained left knee, he took most of the snaps in Saturday`s practice.

"Nothing is remarkable regarding Brett. You kind of expect it," coach Mike Sherman said.

Favre eased back into practice, taking limited snaps Thursday, then sharing duties with backup Doug Pederson Friday. As has been the case for most of this season, the practices were held behind "closed doors."
Reports from inside concerning Favre`s recovery from his sprained lateral collateral ligament were encouraging.

"Same as always, nothing different," was receiver Donald Driver`s assessment of Favre. Driver was the recipient of a couple of Favre`s trademark bombs.

Favre`s approach is only slightly altered by a large knee brace reinforced with a heavy tape job. The tape was hindering his movement somewhat, according to coach Sherman, so he`s likely to play with just the brace.

"He has more freedom," Sherman said. "When he was taped up real heavily, he wasn`t as accurate (with his throws). But with that tape off, he seems pretty accurate."
